How to Plan Food for Your Outdoor Event

Planning food for an outdoor event can feel overwhelming. How much do you order? What works best outside? After four years of serving at festivals, weddings, and corporate events across Southwestern Ontario, here are our best tips.

1. Estimate Portions Generously

Outdoor events make people hungry. Fresh air, activity, and socializing all increase appetites. We recommend planning for at least 2 items per guest. For example, a hot dog plus a side of fries or poutine is a common combo.

2. Choose Food That Travels Well

Outdoor events need food that holds up in the heat and is easy to eat standing up. Hot dogs, fries, and poutine are perfect for this. They are handheld, satisfying, and don't need plates or cutlery.

3. Have a Backup Plan for Weather

Ontario weather can be unpredictable. If your event is outdoors, make sure there is a covered area for the food service. Our trailer is self-contained, so we can serve rain or shine, but your guests will appreciate some shelter while they eat. Important note: While we proudly operate rain or shine, we absolutely do not operate during thunderstorms or if thunderstorms or extreme weather are in the forecast. The safety of our team and your guests always comes first. If severe weather is expected, we will work with you to find an alternative plan.

4. Book Early

Summer weekends fill up fast. If you have a date in mind, reach out as early as possible. We only take one event per day to give every client our full attention.

5. Let the Pros Handle It

The best part of hiring a food trailer? You don't have to worry about cooking, serving, or cleaning up. We arrive, set up, serve your guests, and pack everything away. You get to enjoy your own event.
